Assignment 10

Due – October 4, 2016

  1. Work in your group to create a PowerPoint that shares the assigned information about Edwin Gordon. Remember to use copyright free images and clean slide designs.
  1. Write a script to go with each slide.
  1. Use Screencast-o-matic to record your slide show. Use the webcam, in addition to capturing your PowerPoint slide. In the webcam we will see you (Picture in a picture) and hear your voice
  1. Your Screencast should be 4-5 minutes in length.
  1. Save your screencast. Share the .mp4 link and/or upload your screencast to youtube and share that link.
  1. Be prepared to share your video presentation on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in class.
Four Possible Topics for the Gordon Presentation

(These will be chosen randomly)

  1. Audiation

Explain and define audiation

Discuss the stages of audiation and what students can do at each stage

Give examples of audiation

  1. Whole-Part-Whole and approach to teaching rhythm and tonal patterns

Explain and define whole-part-whole

Give examples of what music lesson would look like using whole-part-whole

Discuss how Gordon makes use of organized tonal and rhythm patterns

Include a discussion of his rhythmic syllables and how they are used

  1. Music Learning Theory – A Developmental Approach

Outline the different stages of development

Describe what students are able to do at each stage

Show how the stages are sequential

Give examples of lesson material that could be used at each stage

  1. Music Aptitude

Discuss Dr. Gordon’s philosophy on music aptitude.

Outline the aptitude tools (tests) that have been developed for use in the music classroom

Discuss who should administer the tests and how the information should be used

Discuss why aptitude tests are important and the value they have for the classroom teacher
