Education Program Timeline and Application Overview

The following is a suggested timeline of key events during your time in the education program. This list can help ensure you are on track for completing the program. If you have specific questions about an item on this list, reach out to your advisor or a member of the education department. 

Year in School

Freshman / Sophomore

Maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher

Enroll and Pass EDUC 201 / MUED 201 with a C or better

·  Complete background check and felony/misdemeanor form during EDUC 201 / MUED 201

Enroll and Pass EDPS 210 with a C or better

·   Complete Checkpoint 1: Application for Admission to Education Program (Goldenrod form)

·  Distribute 3 faculty recommendation forms for your admissions file Recommendations for Admission into Teacher Education

·   Sign up and pass the Admission to Education Program Interview

Select an Academic Advisor

Register Chalk & Wire Subscription in EDPS 210

 

 

 

 

Sophomore / Junior

Maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher

Education courses beyond the foundations level require admission to the program for enrollment.

Keep track of field experience hours to be sure you will earn 100+ by student teaching semester

· Turn in any independent hours that you may have earned to the Field Experience Office

Complete Student Teaching Survey form in whichever of the following courses you are enrolled: EDUC 324E / 324S / MUED 301. Forms will be distributed during class.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Senior Year

Maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher

Monitor field experience hours (100 hours are needed in order to student teach)

·  Turn in any independent hours that you may have earned to the Field Experience Office

In the semester prior to student teaching:

·  Complete Checkpoint 2: Application for Admission to Professional Semester (Blue Form)

·  Complete a second background check (information will be sent via email)

·  Attend mandatory Student Teaching Early Orientation meeting (information will be sent via email)

·  Register and attempt the Praxis Content Tests for all applicable endorsement areas (Must be completed prior to the start of student teaching.)

Attend Mandatory Teacher Job Search/Placement Meeting

·  For spring student teaching candidates, Bill Schranz will email you information about attending a meeting during the first week back on campus.

 

 

 

Senior Year (During your student teaching semester)

Student Teaching Orientation

·  Attend Student Teaching Orientation Meetings the three days prior to the beginning of Student Teaching.

·  Student teaching requirements begin the first day of the Concordia University semester – after that, the student teacher follows the cooperating school calendar, NOT Concordia’s calendar

During Student Teaching I

·   Attend Student Teaching Seminar Course weekly during Student Teaching I

·  Complete the edTPA and submit for scoring during Student Teaching I. The edTPA must be submitted for scoring before starting Student Teaching II.
